My WisCon Schedule 2018

So, here’s what I’m doing at WisCon, as of right now.

Saturday, May 26th

8:30-9:45 AM: 2018 Midterms, You’re Our Only Hope! (Panel) — I’m moderating this panel, which is about organizing and motivating for the 2018 midterms. Come to hear me say one of my clunky, belabored catchphrases like “Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of civic participation!” in person, stay for tips on getting and staying involved. Location: Caucus (Tee-hee) Room, ground floor of the hotel.

2:30-3:45 PM: Found Media in Mixed Objects (Reading) — A group of trans and genderqueer artists doing a very unconventional reading in mixed media. Expect everything from poetry to diary readings to tweets to comic strips. Location: Back room of Michelangelo’s, the coffee shop just down the street. Show up early, seating is limited!

10:30-11:45 PM: Bisexual Representation In Film And TV (Panel) — What it says on the tin. Location: Assembly Room, ground floor of the hotel.

Sunday, May 27th

2:30-3:45 PM: SyFy’s Leading Women – An Exploration Of Women Protagonists In SyFy’s Current Lineup (Panel) — Another mod gig. Full disclosure – I’m not actually current on these shows so my plan is to do some catch-up and some research and then mostly facilitate the discussion between the people who are on the panel on purpose. It’s on the list of panels needing some love, so if you’re a WisCon member and you have a lot of thoughts and/or feelings and/or opinions about this topic, please consider volunteering here. Location: Conference Room 5, on the second floor, down the hallway to the right if you’re coming up the grand staircase.

(There’s actually a lot of panels on list of panels that could stand to have another person or two, so if something catches your eye… they’re actively canvassing for people, so you don’t have to feel like you’re taking a slot away from someone more qualified. Great way to get your feet wet!)

8:45 PM-Close: Superheroes & Serial Fiction Party (Party) — Party, party, party! We had such a good time last year that we’re throwing another one. Come see us in room 629 (which, if it is where I think it is, is down the hall to the left as you come out of the elevator bank on the sixth floor), where we’ll do our best to arrange a chill, low sensory intensity atmosphere, crafty activities, and some lower carb alternatives. (Plenty of sugary snacks elsewhere; the whole party floor is effectively one party.)

And hey, protip: We’re starting during the guest of honor events, so if you have always wanted to check out the party situation but you want to miss the noise and crowds (or get comfortable before they start), come by early. It should be pretty laid back.
