One Year Out

Filed under: Uncategorized — Alexandra Erin @ 2:44 pm

November 9th, 2007th wasth the last… *ahem*

Let me try that again.

November 9th, 2007 was the last day I worked at my old job. Yes, it’s been a year since I walked away from all that. The past year has been a learning experience. I’ve made some mistakes and some missteps, a lot of which in retrospect came from focusing on growth before focusing on sustainability. I’ve had some stretches of incredibly rotten luck… getting sick without health coverage is pretty lousy luck. Having it happen during one of the Worst. Economic Downturns. Ever. is worse luck. Having it happen during one of the W.ED.E.s when your income is largely dependent on donations is worse still. But the worst luck in the world doesn’t undo the fact that I’m lucky enough to be doing this in the first place.

Will I make it another year? I think so. I might have to work on my Starving Artist skills a bit… i.e., eat more ramen and such… in the coming months. I can do that. Who doesn’t like a Totino’s Party Pizza every now and then?

Anyway, one year down. I can’t wait to see how the next one goes.

In case you haven’t noticed…

…I’m messing around with the layout here. I’ve never really liked the look of my blog. There may be some weirdness until I get it the way I want it. I’ll put the project links and such back up once I’ve got the thing readable.

For now, I just wanted to let everybody know that More Tales of MU will be coming back soon. If not this upcoming week, then the next one. I also wanted to let everybody know that after judging the “donate for updates” experiment on Star Harbor Nights to be a success, I’m going to be doing similar things with my other languishing stories, one at a time so as to make sure I’m not biting off more than I can chew. Up next is Void Dogs. The typical Void Dogs chapterlet is shorter than a Star Harbor Nights update, so I’m setting the benchmark at $25. The donation links that are tied into Void Dogs are on the Void Dogs page.
