Alas, An Update

Filed under: Uncategorized — Alexandra Erin @ 5:26 am

Haven’t really kept up with this the way I meant to, but there are only so many different ways to say, “I’ve been sick, but I think I’m starting to get better. No, wait, I’m getting worse again. Oh, now I’m better… no, wait.” It’s been a pretty hellacious late summer/autumn for respiratory illness here in Nebraska, as well as being a bad time for seasonal allergies. You all know I have problems sleeping at the best of times… in order to have some chance of beating the cough, I’ve been taking NyQuil gel caps at night, which leaves me groggy for a good portion of the day.

In spite of that I’ve managed to do the three updates a week of Star Harbor that people have been paying for and almost kept up with Tales of MU. I probably could have nailed Tales of MU if I let More MU fall further behind, but I’m aware that some people prefer it to the original.

Anyway, my NyQuil ran out this weekend and I’ve managed to make it through without getting more. My nose is stuffy but I’m feeling fit otherwise. Oh, yeah, my sleep schedule’s upended, as evidenced by the fact that I posted a story at four in the morning and am updating my blog at 6, but what else is new? I’m well-rested at the moment. Expect big things in the next two weeks, update wise. The More MU I just posted introduces a plot element I’ve been building to from chapter 1… well, actually, far longer than that. There are only a few comments on it, as it posted at an odd time, but the early response seems to show that people are excited. Good thing, as I’m excited, too.

I’m going to let Ariella on the computer for a bit, and then I think I’m going to write a Star Harbor.

Checking in.

Well, I decided to kill the political digression entry because I don’t really see much point to getting a bunch of ongoing debates in my comment notifications… in other news, the sinus/throat problem that was kicking my ass all weekend is mostly gone. I probably should have blogged about that, in keeping with the whole “central point of information distribution” idea for this blog, but I didn’t have a lot of energy to spare. For those who did hear about it through various channels and sent me well-wishes, thank you. For those who didn’t have a clue, sorry for leaving you out of the loop.

In other other news, my forum appears to have gone belly-up. Meh. I don’t really have the time to troubleshoot it, and it needed upgrading anyway, so I I’m going to install the next version of phpBB and just go forward.

I’m officially adopting The Pirate’s Code: those that fall behind get left behind. If circumstances result in me missing an update, it’s missed. Promising to make it up only results in a “snowballing” situation.

And that’s all for now.

What Goes Down Must Come Up

Filed under: Uncategorized — Alexandra Erin @ 8:10 am

I learned a new site today: “Down For Everyone Or Just Me?”. Sometimes, a site will be inaccessible to you due to a routing issue (as in, finding a route through the wilds of the interwebs, not a problem with your router) of some kind while everything’s fine on their end and other people can get to it. If you’re not sure if this is the case or the site you’re going for is really truly down, this site checks for you.

I found out about this a minute ago, because as of a minute ago, my Nearly Free Speech sites were really truly down. Actually, their whole network was. I started typing this post to explain that I knew about the outage and the sites would be back up as soon as their issue was resolved, but it all came back online as I was typing. I guess if there’s going to be a brief interruption in service, there are worse times for it to happen then Labor Day morning.

Nothing to see here, move along.

EDIT TO ADD:

…and what comes up must go down, it seems. Fun!
